We help to electrify a mining operation in Western Australia

The project, which involves connecting the pumping station of the mining facilities, contributes to decarbonization and the safety of the operation

Mining, like other resource extraction-based activities, has traditionally relied on the use of fossil fuel-powered equipment and generators to ensure a reliable power supply for its facilities, which is essential for its operations. This situation, greatly influenced by the location and specific characteristics of such operations, is undergoing a transformation where Ormazabal is emerging as one of the key partners to overcome the complexities and achieve both electrification and the security of power supply in the sector.

Our latest project, in collaboration with our client Powins Australia, demonstrates this. We have developed and supplied a complete primary distribution solution to connect the pumping station of a mining facility in Western Australia. This plug-and-play solution, housed in a prefabricated metal building, ensures the mine’s connection to the power grid, guaranteeing continuous operations at the site, and supports our client in its efforts to decarbonize its activities.

To achieve this, Ormazabal supplied 15 switchgears of our cpg.0 primary distribution model (36kV, 2000 A, 25kA), distributed in two sets of 7 and 8 switchgears, respectively, in different configurations based on the client’s needs.

This project stands out not only for the high complexity of electrification in the mining sector but also highlights the importance of innovation and collaboration in overcoming these challenges and moving towards more sustainable operations. At Ormazabal, we have been supporting our clients on this path for over 55 years.
