Ormazabal volunteers plant 600 new trees in Urdaibai

The Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve now has 600 new trees thanks to a group of over fifty Ormazabal workers who, together with family and friends, have replanted one hectare in the area around Muxika, in the province of Biscay, with native species.

There have been two planting days on two consecutive Saturdays, the 13th of November and today, the 20th of November, which have been carried out in collaboration with the Lurgaia Foundation. The initiative is part of the “Undabaso Forest” project and, thanks to the 600 new trees planted, will offset the emission of 200 tonnes of CO2 over the next 40 years.

Specifically, native trees and bushes of local seed from Biscay have been planted, which ensures genetic adaptation, of species such as birch, wild cherry, wild pear, hawthorn, rowan, and wild apple among others.

In this way, the people who form part of Ormazabal have contributed first-hand to the protection of a unique natural space such as Urdaibai and to its maintenance for future generations; we show the company’s commitment to its environment in the area of Biscay in which we operate.
