We reduced our CO2 emissions by 2% in 2023

This progress marks a new step forward in our strategy to decarbonize 68% of our operations by 2030

As part of our commitment to fight the climate change—an inherent challenge in our role as a key player in the electrification and decarbonization of society—Ormazabal once again reduced the climate impact of our operations by achieving a 2% reduction in CO2 emissions from industrial production in 2023. This milestone builds on achievements from previous years and is based on various energy efficiency initiatives implemented at several of our sites. This marks another achievement on our path to the intermediate goal of decarbonizing 68% of our activities by 2030 and the more ambitious goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Additionally, in 2023, we launched various initiatives in Bizkaia in collaboration with the Lurgaia Foundation. Specifically, Ormazabal employees participated in the planting of 900 native trees and shrubs on a 90,847 m2 plot within the Undabaso project, which spans 197 hectares. This volunteer activity offsets 260 tons of CO2 over forty years, according to a certificate issued by the Lurgaia Foundation. Beyond carbon offsetting, these projects aim to restore and promote biodiversity and are carried out with a “corporate volunteering” approach, involving around seventy participants in 2023.

Commitment to the environment as part of our DNA

Additionally, over the past few years, we have worked to ensure that all Ormazabal facilities in Spain and France are powered exclusively by certified 100% renewable electricity. We aim to extend this milestone to the rest of the countries where we operate.
