A new public transport model has started in the Swedish city of Gothenburg thanks to its renewed bus fleet. From now on, 157 electric buses, manufactured by Volvo, will be the backbone of the sustainable public transport of this city, that has made the largest single order of this kind of vehicles in Europe. The bus operator Transdev Sweden was awarded the contract to operate the service from public transport company Västtrafik, that has the aim on having all the traffic in Västra Götaland electrified by 2030.
This new public transport scenario will grow up reaching a total of 220 electric buses in service by the end of this year. This kind of buses are ready to host 150 passengers and represent an 88 per cent reduction in CO2 when transitioning to electricity. Something quite interesting in a region with 180 million trips made by bus each year. In order to attend the fleet 19 new high-power electric chargers have been scheduled to be installed during the second half of 2020.
