Doncaster Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project – We support renewable power generation expansion.

This is a 10MWh BESS project in Doncaster, Yorkshire. The site will provide a range of balancing services to the electricity grid to ensure power security, system flexibility, and support the expansion of renewable power generation in the UK.

Edina, an experienced UK based power generation engineering, procurement and construction (‘EPC’) contractor, is assembling the project under a turnkey EPC agreement and thereafter will provide ongoing operation and maintenance (‘O&M’) to ForePower under an O&M services agreement.  Edina is an authorised BESS integrator for CATL (the world’s largest battery manufacturer). Ormazabal was awarded a contract to supply and deliver a packaged substation, comprising MV/LV switchgear, protection and control.

Edina specialises in the engineering, installation and after-care support of low carbon and hydrogen-ready gas-fired Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants, mission-critical standby generation, and integrated battery energy storage systems.

Edina’s client on this Project is Forepower.

ForePower Ltd, develops and operates battery storage and renewable assets to balance the supply and demand across the UK. To complement the existing UK operational portfolio, ForePower Ltd is targeting to expand its current operational portfolio to 1GW within the next 4 years.

Ormazabal challenge and solution:

Supply and delivery of an IEC cgm.3 33kV 630A substation, in accordance with client specification and program.

The main innovative feature of this project was the seamless integration of Ormazabal products with third party relays, meters and equipment. The substation was fitted out, completed and tested in our works prior to delivery – thus reducing site time and potential risks on site.

This project demonstrated the capability of Ormazabal to deliver complex solutions into the RES sector to meet the needs of our clients. It further strengthens our position in renewables, and increases our footprint in battery storage.
